Tripoli – Libya

The social affairs department at STACO organized a scientific seminar titled “Women’s Rights in Libyan Legislation between Reality and Hope” held at the Bab Al-Bahr Hotel in Tripoli.

The seminar was opened by the director of Social Affairs department and Chairperson of the Preparatory Committee, Ms. Amal Mohamed Hdiya, who praised the role of women and their continuous efforts to achieve equality at all levels.

The next speech was presented by the STACO’s Chairman Eng. Salem Abdul Salam Ramadan, in which he stated the importance of highlighting the role of Libyan women and their right to elections, political participation and taking over leadership positions.

The director of theorotection office of the department of social affairs and member of the scientific committee, Dr. Najia Ayad Atraq also, emphasized the importance of the participation of women in political, professional and social fields and called for more appropriate equality for Libyan women.

The Chairman of the Board of STACO presented the shield of the symposium with the highest thanks and appreciation to the  writer and teacher (Lafayet Kabylie) in honor of her literary history in support of women’s rights.

STACO chairman Eng. Salem Abdul Salam Ramadan was honored by the director of the social affairs office with the symposium’s shield for his fruitful efforts and his constructive cooperation with the administrative affairs office staff in the various scientific and social fields.

The first session of the seminar was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ibrahim Al-Farajani, during which the papers were presented. Each researcher presented his participation and read his research in the relevant axis: the general, political, international and legal ones, as well as ways to protect women in the event of violation of their rights. Then floor was given for discussion.

The second session was chaired by Dr. Najia Atraq / Office of protection in the department of social affairs, where researches varied for the purpose of developing leadership skills, international agreements and political rights for Libyan women.

In conclusion, there were recommendations and results presented by Mr. Othman Hames, during which they presented certificates of appreciation to those who devoted their time and effort to the success of this seminar, as well as a certificate of appreciation to the participants for papers.

Hopefully, this symposium and the following activities of the organization will contribute in raise women aware about the importance of their role in society and overcome the difficulties, and participate in the change of legislation and laws of Libya, in a way that supports and strengthen the status of women in the development of society.
