April 25, 2025 | Saint Petersburg – Russian Federation

As part of the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Libyan-Russian relations (1955–2025), an official delegation from the Sheikh Taher Azzawi Charitable Foundation (STACO), headed by Engineer Salem Al-Qamoudi, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, made the first visit of its kind to the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts in Saint Petersburg, one of the most prestigious research institutions affiliated with the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The visit aimed to learn about the cultural and scientific landmarks of the Russian Federation and to view the rare documents and manuscripts contained in Russian archives related to the history of Libya and the Arab region. The delegation reviewed the precious contents of the manuscript heritage and discussed ways of academic and scientific cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the field of heritage documentation and manuscripts.

This visit comes within the context of the Foundation’s openness to pioneering international scientific experiences, leveraging Russian expertise in documenting human history, and strengthening cooperation between Libyan research centers and their Russian counterparts in the fields of knowledge, documentation, and translation.

STACO affirms that this step represents a new beginning in the path of Libyan cultural and scientific diplomacy and reflects the Foundation’s commitment to linking humanitarian work with academic documentation and promoting dialogue between civilizations.
