The Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Engineer Salem Abdel Salam, met with the Head of the Protection Department at the International Organization for Migration, Ms. Carolina Adsbacher, with the aim of discussing ways to rescue irregular migrants and focusing on the most vulnerable groups of them in rescue cases and what they require of emergency medical interventions due to the poor ways of transporting them overseas in Irregular flow attempts to reach European shores.
This meeting aims to develop an integrated mechanism of action to support, protect and treat migrants inside the shelters until the time of their return to their country within the “voluntary return” program.
The International Organization for Migration has documented more than 432,000 migrants in Libya of 30 African nationalities, while the total number of migrants is estimated between 700 thousand and one million migrants, as the International Organization for Migration helped 20 thousand migrants voluntarily return to their countries during the past year and deported about 9 Thousands of migrants from Libya in the first six months of 2018, as part of the “voluntary return” program managed by the organization.
