Visit of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Taher Azzawi Charitable Foundation to the Russian National Library in Saint Petersburg

As part of the program of cultural and scientific visits to prestigious Russian institutions, Engineer Salem Al-Qamoudi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Taher Azzawi Charitable Foundation (STACO), made a scientific visit to the Russian National Library in Saint Petersburg, one of the largest and oldest libraries in the world.

The Director of the Russian National Library received the Libyan delegation. During the meeting, they discussed ways of academic and scientific cooperation, enhancing cultural and knowledge exchange between the two sides, and discussing opportunities to benefit from Russian expertise in the field of archiving and preserving documents and manuscripts.

During the visit, the delegation viewed some of the rare manuscripts and historical holdings held by the library, which number more than 42 million titles, including books, manuscripts, periodicals, maps, and rare sources in various international languages. This makes it a beacon of scientific research and a center for preserving human heritage.

Engineer Al-Qamoudi emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with international research and cultural institutions and leveraging Russia’s long-standing experience in managing cultural and intellectual heritage, serving the Foundation’s vision of supporting research, education, and sustainable development.

The Russian National Library, founded in 1795, is one of the oldest national libraries and occupies a prominent position among the world’s leading libraries, playing a pivotal role in preserving cultural heritage and disseminating knowledge throughout the ages.
