Mr. Salem Al-Qammoudi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Al-Taher Al-Zawi Foundation #STACO, met with Mr.: Alaa Tartir, Project Manager for the small arms survey program, to discuss the development of partnership in the field of disarmament and the integration of armed formations into civilian life, and the extent of achieving social peace within local communities, with cooperation and coordination. With the relevant authorities in Libya, where the projects director praised what the organization had achieved by paying attention to this important file.
These meetings come as an embodiment of the vision of the Sheikh Taher Al-Zawi Charitable Foundation #STACO for disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, a strategic road map and the reference framework for future interventions to contribute to social cohesion and national reconciliation. They carry a main goal of reintegrating fighters through peace-building and economic empowerment programs, according to the conclusions of the recommendations. The international symposium held by the Sheikh Al-Tahir Al-Zawi Charitable Foundation in the Republic of Sudan 2018 with the Sudan Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission (DDR).
The Small Arms Survey is an independent research project located at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. It provides impartial and general information about all aspects of small arms and light weapons, in addition to research related to weapons matters, and works on survey and disarmament initiatives in societies in cooperation with other parties. (Governmental and non-governmental), and acts as a forum and clearinghouse for sharing information.
The goal of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process is to contribute to security and stability in post-conflict environments so that recovery and development can begin. The program helps create an environment conducive to the transition from conflict to peace and stability, which is an initial step towards peace.
