The Humanitarian Charter and Basic Standards for Humanitarian Response

The Humanitarian Charter and Basic Standards for Humanitarian Response

Mr. Salem Al-Qamoudi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Al-Taher Al-Zawi Charitable Foundation, and in the presence of a group of international and international organizations and institutions concerned with humanitarian and humanitarian work, attended a workshop organized by the Sphere Project in order to consolidate the foundations of the humanitarian response in a participatory human rights approach. This meeting provided an opportunity for 21 of the Sphere focal points and trainers to discuss the use of humanitarian standards in widely diverse contexts, delve into training approaches, and ways to strengthen the Sphere network. During the meeting, the participants reviewed the second draft of the Sphere Handbook 2018, where the participants presented their plans for dissemination and training activities in the coming months, and discussed ways to increase cooperation with both the Sphere secretariat in Geneva and focal points in other regions.

STACO’s participation came as the first and only partner in Libya with Sphere, as this project is a voluntary initiative that brings together a large group of international humanitarian organizations around a common goal of improving the quality of humanitarian assistance around the world. The common principles and global standards that enjoy the greatest international recognition by the areas of humanitarian response are:
Water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion, food security and nutrition, shelter, settlements, non-food items, health work and psychosocial support.

The “Sphere” project, which was established in 1997, consists of representatives of global networks of humanitarian organizations, and currently relies on 52 active awareness coordination centers covering nearly 48 countries, and the project aims to achieve a world that recognizes the right of all affected people in an attempt to alleviate their suffering and provide a decent life for them .
